What a legal notice is — and what it is not
A legal notice is a formal written communication, usually sent before initiating or responding to legal proceedings. It sets out a position and often invites a response within a stated period.
What it typically contains
A notice usually identifies the parties, states the relevant facts, sets out the sender’s position and specifies what is sought. Precise, measured wording is important.
What it is not
A legal notice is not, by itself, a court order, and sending or receiving one does not determine the outcome of a matter.
